Teeth Cleanings

After the initial exam, we’ll prepare a dental hygiene maintenance schedule based upon the individual’s needs. During this visit, we’ll remove plaque from your teeth, clean your teeth, and apply fluoride to help protect your teeth. Fluoride is a recent, but important, advancement in dental health. A moderate and consistent exposure to fluoride will help strengthen and rebuild your teeth’s enamel while preventing future tooth decay (cavities).

The process of getting a filling is essentially replacing your tooth structure that’s damaged or decayed and restoring it with another material. The location, type of cavity, and patient’s desires are what will determine what kind of filling we will use. We’ll work with you to help you decide on which would be best.

Composite White Fillings-These tooth-colored fillings are ideal for patients who want to maintain the natural beauty of their smile. These match the color of your smile and will bond well to your teeth. While they’re not as strong as metal fillings, they’re still durable and should last for about six to 12 years.

Silver Amalgam Fillings – These metal fillings are made from strong materials to withstand the forces applied from chewing. While they’re incredibly durable, they’re not made for aesthetics and they can make the surrounding tooth structure appear discolored. These fillings are generally used for the back teeth as they’re more durable and they won’t be seen often.

Smith Family Dentistry provides two types of extractions and referrals for oral surgeons.

General Extractions – This is the complete removal of a tooth. These may be performed if a primary tooth is blocking the eruption of a permanent tooth, if a tooth has suffered extensive decay that can’t be repaired, if a patient has gum disease, or if a tooth is impacted. Depending on the complexity of the case, the extraction may be performed surgically or non-surgically. We’ll use mild anesthesia to ensure that you’re as comfortable as possible throughout the process.

Wisdom Teeth Removal – Your third molars are referred to as your wisdom teeth. These teeth will generally appear in your late teens or early twenties and they usually don’t have enough room to properly erupt. This is known as impaction and it can cause damage to the adjacent teeth and create a condition called crowding. Many patients will require their wisdom teeth to be removed in order to avoid these detrimental effects.

Digital X-Rays

As we offer the latest in dental technology, we’re proud to utilize digital radiography, also known as digital X-rays. For this to work, a wireless sensor is placed into the mouth and then the computer generates an image. Instead of the standard four to six-minute wait time it will take on dental film, this will only take a mere 30 seconds. They are safer than traditional x-rays and friendly to the environment.

Composite bonding is used to improve the appearance of your teeth. For this treatment, a composite material, such as a plastic or resin, is bonded to one of your teeth in order to repair chipped or cracked teeth, reduce tooth gaps, and hide discoloration. Composite bonding has many advantages, some of which include the following:

  • Unlike crowns and veneers, composite bonding will remove very little, if any, of the tooth.
  • The composite resins come in many different shades and will be able to match your teeth better.
  • It’s a relatively inexpensive procedure.
  • It’s a quick process that will generally take less than an hour.

Composite bonds will stain more easily though, which is why they require proper care and cleaning. In order to make sure that they’re long-lasting, it’s important for you to brush and floss them daily.
